Guide to Football Scholarships

The guide for international students will not be complete without listing the documents required for admission with Football Scholarships in Colleges.

Once shortlisted for admission, a student athlete will have to submit the following documents to confirm their admission -

  • Previous academic records and transcripts

  • Test scores like GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, IELTS, etc. (as per course requirement)

  • Letters of Recommendation

  • Statement of Purpose

  • Resume

  • Proof of funding

After sorting out the document and paperwork the next step in the process is to apply. Learn about the language proficiency needs. In all American universities, international students will need to prove their English language proficiency. Different universities will have a variety of language requirements and standards that should be studied in detail before applying for a course with Football Scholarships, if English is not your mother tongue. They may accept the language test scores or waive them off if you have sufficient marks in the language from your previous degree or reduce your required scores if you undertake an intensive English language course. In general, the TOEFL and IELTS language test scores are accepted as proof of English proficiency. The usual score bar for IELTS is 5.5, and for TOEFL it is 46, though some universities may require higher scores.

Importance of Athletic assessment:

During an athletic assessment, an SSUSA consultant in your sport will watch you play and maybe also watch you via video. You should also have your CV, stats, and academics ready to be reviewed. Based on this information, the assessor will tell you whether you are good enough for a sports scholarship. It is one of the most important steps in getting a sports scholarship and should be done before you even look into schools.

It also helps align you to what level you should be aiming for. It is to be noted that 84% of football scholarships in the USA are outside of the NCAA D1. If you aren’t at the top of your game in your home country and only have eyes for D1 coaches, you might not hear back from any of them. However, if you were to open your scope to NCAA D2, NAIA & NJCAA coaches, you could find yourself with a very generous football scholarship offer.

There are over 2,000 schools in the United States which give out sports scholarships, so finding you a school that is the right fit for you is what we do best. The athletic assessment will help you narrow it down so you can choose the schools where you’ve got the best chances of getting a sports scholarship in USA, at a school that matches your personality, ambition & drive.

If a sports scholarship in the USA is what you dream of, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us today. We’ll provide you with a free eligibility assessment, and check if you are athletically capable of heading across to the States. Don’t hesitate, start your journey today!
