Another fantastic Scholarship Sports USA success story is Matty Toolan from Dublin, Ireland, who completed a standout collegiate career in the United States with University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.
Standing at 6’5”, Matty was a commanding presence in defense, bringing aerial dominance, composure on the ball and leadership to the back line throughout his collegiate career.
Matty joined the Milwaukee Panthers after transferring from Jefferson College, where he helped the program achieve tremendous success — winning conference and Region 16 titles, as well as a district championship, while also earning All-Conference honors and a place at the NJCAA Division I National Championship.
After arriving in Milwaukee, Matty made an immediate impact in NCAA Division I, becoming a regular starter in defense. During the 2023 season, he started 13 matches across 15 appearances, recording an assist and helping anchor the defensive line.
In 2024, he continued to play an important role for the Panthers, appearing in 11 matches and starting six, before reclaiming a starting role late in the season and playing every minute of the final five games. His performances both on the field and in the classroom earned him recognition on the **Horizon League Academic Honor Roll.
Before heading to the United States, Matty developed his game in Ireland playing for Shamrock Rovers F.C. and Larkview FC, building the foundations for a successful collegiate career.
Alongside his football career, Matty completed his degree in Biomedical Science, embodying the true student-athlete balance that the U.S. college pathway provides.
Everyone at Scholarship Sports USA is incredibly proud of Matty’s journey — from Dublin to NCAA Division I soccer — and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for him as he continues pursuing his goal of playing professionally.
Congratulations Matty 👏⚽
