The TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based Test) is the most widely accepted English language test for U.S. universities. It measures your ability to read, write, speak, and understand academic English.
The test is now offered both online and at test centres around the world.

Colleges need to confirm that you can succeed in an English speaking classroom. Even if you meet athletic and academic requirements, you may not be admitted without a valid TOEFL score. The TOEFL is often required by:
You can register for the TOEFL online at www.ets.org/toefl. There are test centres across the UK and globally. Many students now opt for TOEFL Home Edition, which is taken online with a proctor.
If you're from the UK, Ireland, Australia, or another native English speaking country, most colleges waive the TOEFL. However, dual nationals or those who studied abroad may be asked for proof of language proficiency. If English is not your primary academic language (e.g. if your high school was taught in a different language), it’s safer to take the TOEFL.
While the TOEFL doesn’t impact the amount of athletic scholarship you receive, it does affect your admission eligibility. Without a valid TOEFL score, a coach may not be able to offer you a place, even if they want to. That’s why early TOEFL planning is critical for international athletes.
